Home Security Services That Make Sense for Real Families

We understand what homeowners really want from security systems: genuine protection that actually works when needed, not just expensive equipment that looks impressive in a brochure. You want to feel safe when you're home, confident when you're away, and certain that if something does happen, you'll have the evidence you need.

Home security isn't one-size-fits-all. Every family has different concerns, different property layouts, different budgets, and different comfort levels with technology. We've secured hundreds of Sydney homes, and what we've learned is this: the best security system is the one that matches your actual situation, not the one with the most features or the highest price tag.

As a home security provider, we offer:

  • Honest assessments of what you actually need (including what you don't need)
  • Security system design based on your property's vulnerable points, not generic packages
  • Professional installation by licensed, police-checked electricians who treat your home with respect
  • Patient training so you're genuinely comfortable using your new system
  • Integration with existing electrical and smart home systems where possible
  • Ongoing support because security questions don't stop after installation day

We are NECA members with fully licensed electricians and certified security installers. All our technicians are police-checked for your peace of mind. Every installation meets Australian Standards and comes with a lifetime workmanship warranty.

Our role is to help you sleep better at night, not to sell you equipment you don't need or systems so complicated you'll never use them properly.

Home Security Capability

Home security works best when it's designed around your specific situation, not copied from a product catalogue. Here's how we approach protecting Sydney homes.

Understanding What You Actually Need

The security industry sells excess equipment. We prioritize your concerns and effective design.

We start by asking questions:

  • What worries you most? Break-ins? Package theft? Kids home alone?
  • Where is your property vulnerable? The side gate? The back door? Ground-floor windows?
  • What's happened in your area? Are neighbours being targeted? Have you had incidents before?
  • How do you want to interact with security? Mobile alerts or video footage?

Your answers shape our recommendations. For package theft, we focus on front door coverage and alerts.

What we won't do:

  • Pressure you into systems far beyond your budget
  • Use strategic placement instead of overselling cameras
  • Use complex systems only if simple solutions don't work
  • Install equipment that requires IT degrees to operate
  • Create security anxiety to make sales

Security Integration and Smart Home Compatibility

Security works better when different systems communicate and automate together rather than operating as separate devices you manage individually.

Practical integration examples:

When your alarm arms at night, security lights activate at doorways and cameras switch to enhanced night mode. When you unlock the front door, the alarm automatically disarms if you're arriving during expected timeframes. When motion sensors detect movement in your driveway, cameras start recording and send mobile alerts with video clips.

We work with existing smart home systems including Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and dedicated home automation platforms. If you already have smart lighting, door locks, or thermostats, we'll integrate security so everything works together cohesively.

But integration is optional, not mandatory. If you want straightforward security without smart home complexity, we design systems that work perfectly well as standalone solutions. Your security shouldn't require you to become a home automation expert.

Storage, Recording, and Evidence Management

Security footage is only valuable if it's actually there when you need it and stored in a format you can access.

Local versus cloud storage considerations:

Local recording offers reliable storage without subscriptions. You own the footage, control access, and don't rely on the internet. However, theft of the recorder means losing the footage.

Cloud storage secures footage off-site, accessible anywhere online. It requires ongoing subscription fees and reliable upload speeds.

We recommend hybrid approaches: local recording for cost-effective storage and cloud backup for critical cameras. This balances reliability and cost.

Storage capacity and retention:

How long to keep footage? Many don't notice theft until days later. A system that overwrites every three days is nearly useless. We recommend at least 14-day retention for homes, 30 days for frequent travelers.

Storage needs vary by camera count, resolution, frame rates, and recording type. We assess your requirements during design to ensure sufficient capacity.

Maintenance and Ongoing Support

Security systems require occasional maintenance to keep working reliably. Camera lenses accumulate dust, spider webs, and weather residue. Software updates improve functionality and patch security vulnerabilities. Batteries in wireless devices need replacing periodically.

We provide ongoing support after installation because security questions don't end on installation day. You'll wonder if camera angles need adjusting as vegetation grows. You'll want to add cameras later when circumstances change. You'll need help accessing footage if incidents occur.

Our approach includes training that ensures you're genuinely comfortable operating your system, mobile apps, and remote access before we leave. We provide clear documentation of your system layout, login credentials, and basic troubleshooting. We're available by phone when you have questions or need assistance accessing footage after incidents.

Our approach to home security in Sydney

Our Approach to Home Security

Local Electrical Services operates as a trusted home security advisor, not a high-pressure sales operation. We understand that inviting someone into your home to discuss security vulnerabilities requires trust, and that spending thousands on security systems deserves honest guidance.

Our role is to understand what actually worries you about home security, assess your property's genuine vulnerable points, recommend solutions proportional to your risk and budget, install everything properly so it works reliably, and ensure you're comfortable using the system confidently.

We succeed when families feel safer at home, when security systems work in the background, when homeowners can check their property from anywhere, and when security investments provide peace of mind.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every home security project we undertake.

Home Security FAQs

YOU HAVE QUESTIONS
& WE HAVE ANSWERS.

Will I get lots of false alarms from security systems? add
Modern security systems properly installed and configured rarely produce false alarms, but cheaper equipment or poor installation often creates frustrating false alarm problems. The difference comes down to sensor quality and strategic positioning. We use professional-grade sensors that distinguish between genuine intrusion attempts and harmless movement like pets, swaying plants, or passing vehicles. We position sensors away from heating vents, direct sunlight, and other environmental factors that trigger cheap sensors unnecessarily. For outdoor cameras, we configure motion detection zones that ignore footpaths, roads, and other areas where movement is expected, focusing alerts on areas where people shouldn't be. Modern systems also use verification methods reducing false alarms significantly. Camera-verified alarms require both sensor triggers and visual confirmation before alerting. Smart systems learn normal household patterns and only alert for unusual activity. You also control sensitivity levels and can arm different zones independently, securing external access while leaving internal sensors disarmed if pets are inside.
Can I monitor my security system from my phone when I'm away? add
Yes, all modern systems we install include mobile access letting you monitor your home from anywhere with internet connection. You can view live camera feeds, receive instant alerts when sensors trigger, review recorded footage, arm or disarm alarm systems remotely, and control integrated smart devices like lights or locks. We configure mobile access during installation and train you thoroughly on using the apps until you're genuinely comfortable. The quality of mobile access depends on your home internet upload speed and the system configuration. We test remote access before completing installation to ensure it works reliably. Some homeowners worry about privacy with mobile-connected security systems. We configure systems with strong passwords, encrypted connections, and secure access controls. You control who can access your system and can review connection logs showing when and how your system was accessed.
What happens to my security system during power outages? add
Standard security systems require mains power and will stop functioning during blackouts unless you add backup power. For homes where continuous security is essential, we recommend integrating an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that keeps security systems operating during outages. UPS runtime depends on the unit's capacity and your system's power consumption, but typically provides several hours of backup, often enough to cover most Sydney blackouts. Some wireless security components include built-in batteries providing limited backup, usually 4-8 hours. These work well for sensor networks and control panels but don't power cameras or recording devices long-term. For properties in areas with frequent outages or where uninterrupted security is critical, we'll calculate appropriate UPS sizing during system design and include this in your quote. The modest additional cost provides significant peace of mind knowing your security continues protecting your family even when mains power fails.
Do security cameras really prevent break-ins or just record them? add
Visible security cameras demonstrably deter opportunistic burglars who choose easier targets without surveillance. Studies consistently show properties with visible cameras are significantly less likely to be targeted than neighbouring properties without them. However, cameras alone don't prevent determined criminals, which is why we recommend layered security combining visible deterrence with functional evidence collection. The most effective approach uses visible cameras at obvious entry points (front doors, driveways) that signal your property is protected, combined with more discreet cameras covering vulnerable areas (side gates, rear access) that capture evidence if someone attempts entry despite deterrent cameras. Proper camera positioning is critical. Cameras must capture faces and identifying details, not just motion in the distance. We position cameras at heights and angles that record useful evidence police can actually use to identify offenders. When integrated with alarm systems and security lighting, cameras become part of comprehensive protection that both deters casual criminals and documents serious intrusion attempts with evidence quality footage.
Can you upgrade or add to my existing security system? add
Often yes, depending on your current system's age and technology. If you have an existing alarm system and want to add cameras, we can usually integrate them into a unified system. If you have older cameras and want better quality or additional coverage, we can expand existing networks in most cases. However, very old systems using obsolete technology sometimes make expansion impractical. We assess your existing equipment during consultation and provide honest guidance about whether upgrading components makes sense or whether starting fresh with modern equipment provides better value long-term. We won't push unnecessary replacement if your existing system works adequately and can be expanded effectively. However, if your current system uses outdated technology, provides poor footage quality, or would cost nearly as much to upgrade as replacing entirely with modern equipment, we'll explain this honestly. Many homeowners discover that complete system replacement with current technology delivers dramatically better performance for modest additional cost compared to patching older systems.
